Power Tractor at the WCTA Convention: Showcasing the Future of Electric Equipment

The Power Tractor team recently attended the Western Turfgrass Association of Canada Convention (WCTA) for the first time — and it was an excellent opportunity to connect with professionals across the turf and landscaping industry.

This event is centered around education and innovation, with a strong focus on:

  • Turf health and management
  • Water conservation practices
  • Fertilization strategies
  • Sustainable landscaping solutions

For us, it was the perfect setting to highlight something that’s becoming impossible to ignore in the industry: electrification.

Bringing Electrification to the Turf Industry

At our booth, we were proud to represent Greenworks and showcase what modern battery-powered equipment is truly capable of.

There’s still a common perception that electric tools can’t match gas — whether it’s runtime, power, or convenience.

But that gap is closing fast.

And in many cases, it’s already gone.

The 82V Advantage: Matching Gas Performance

One of the biggest highlights we demonstrated was Greenworks’ 82-volt commercial platform.

This system is designed to directly compete with — and often exceed — traditional gas-powered equipment.

Across multiple tool categories, we showcased:

  • Chainsaws
  • Backpack blowers
  • Cut-off saws
  • Handheld equipment

These tools are engineered to:

  • Match or exceed gas equivalents in power output
  • Deliver comparable runtime per “tank”
  • Maintain similar weight and ergonomics

For many operators, that’s the tipping point.

Solving the Runtime Problem

The most common concern we hear is simple:

“Battery doesn’t last as long as gas.”

Greenworks has tackled this head-on.

Their system is designed so that battery runtime aligns with a full tank of gas, removing one of the biggest barriers to adoption.

But more importantly, they’ve gone beyond just runtime — they’ve built a complete energy ecosystem.

Crew Fleet Management: Working All Day Without Downtime

A major differentiator is Greenworks’ crew-focused battery management system.

Instead of relying on a single battery, operators can:

  • Carry a battery caddy with up to six fully charged batteries
  • Hot swap batteries in seconds
  • Keep tools running continuously throughout the day

This system integrates seamlessly with wheeled equipment, allowing crews to:

  • Recharge handheld tools directly in the field
  • Cycle batteries efficiently between machines
  • Reduce downtime on job sites

The Energy Cube: Power Anywhere

For crews without larger equipment on-site, Greenworks offers a solution:

The Energy Cube.

This mobile power unit allows operators to:

  • Charge batteries remotely
  • Stay powered for a full 8–10 hour workday
  • Eliminate the need for fuel transport

It’s a practical solution for contractors working in remote or large-scale environments.

Built to Be Serviced — Not Replaced

Another standout feature from the Greenworks Optimus Line is its serviceability.

Unlike many electric tools on the market, the Optimus lineup is:

  • Fully dismantlable
  • Serviceable at the component level

This means your investment isn’t tied to the lifespan of a single battery or sealed unit — a major advantage for long-term ownership and maintenance.

Supporting the “Green” Evolution

While WCTA is focused on turf, the broader theme is clear:

The industry is evolving.

Electrification isn’t just a trend — it’s becoming a practical, jobsite-ready solution.

From reduced emissions to quieter operation and lower maintenance requirements, battery-powered equipment is changing how crews operate day-to-day.
